Dozens of people were reported injured Saturday in a new attack at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, two days after Houthi-claimed strikes there killed three Saudi citizens and damaged a Saudia aircraft.
A hospital source told AFP that most of Saturday’s casualties were Saudi nationals and at least five people were treated in intensive care. Witnesses described an explosion, evacuations and injuries inside a domestic terminal. Saudi authorities had not confirmed the reported attack, while a diplomatic source attributed it to Yemen’s Houthis.
The U.S., Canadian, German and Spanish embassies advised their citizens to avoid the airport. Flightradar24 showed flights being cancelled or diverted, and Kuwait Airways cancelled two services, citing the airport’s closure because of the security situation.
In Thursday’s attacks, Saudi aviation authorities said an airline pilot was among three people killed and that several others of different nationalities were wounded. A Saudia aircraft parked without passengers was damaged. The Houthis said they had targeted the airport with ballistic and cruise missiles, while the Saudi-led coalition said it intercepted missiles and later destroyed three Houthi launch platforms.
Air India, IndiGo, Akasa Air, Lufthansa and Pakistan International Airlines were among carriers that suspended Riyadh services after Thursday’s strikes. Saudi authorities later said airport operations had returned to normal before Saturday’s reported attack.
