Saudi Arabia struck oil facilities and other targets in Houthi-controlled Yemen on Tuesday, hours after explosions and air-raid sirens were reported in Riyadh amid continuing Houthi missile and drone attacks on the kingdom.
The Saudi-led coalition had ordered civilians to leave the Al-Sabaha oil facility west of Sanaa before it was hit. Yemen Petroleum Company said the site held no fuel stocks and that supplies were stored elsewhere. The Guardian reported that Saudi forces also struck Houthi oil depots at Ras Isa port in Hodeidah and a suspected leadership site in Saada province.
The Houthi-run health ministry said two people were killed in a separate strike on an oil company in Hodeidah, according to RTÉ. Saudi Arabia did not immediately confirm that attack. Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree separately claimed that 119 Saudi airstrikes over 24 hours had killed and wounded civilians, including women and children, across Sanaa and several provinces.
The strikes followed repeated Houthi attacks on Saudi infrastructure, including Saturday’s attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, which killed 13 people and wounded more than 300. The Houthis threatened further attacks against Saudi Aramco facilities and airports, while the Saudi cabinet said it would defend the kingdom and navigation in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab Strait.
Oil prices rose Monday, with Brent crude closing near $106 a barrel after reaching $107.33, according to The Hill.
