Russian missile, drone and bomb attacks killed at least 78 people and wounded 215 across Ukraine over two days, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said, as he criticized the United States for what he described as insufficient support.
The first wave included 70 missiles and dozens of Shahed drones, according to Zelenskyy, striking energy and industrial infrastructure as well as residential areas. A missile destroyed much of a five-storey apartment building in Pryluky, in the Chernihiv region. Officials initially reported 20 deaths there, including five children; a later report put the toll at 22. Rescuers pulled 15 survivors from the rubble, while about 55 people were wounded in the town.
A subsequent bomb attack in the eastern city of Kramatorsk tore through two buses. Further drone strikes brought the reported death toll there to 35. Local authorities also reported deaths in Kyiv, Oleksandriia, Kremenchuk, Dnipropetrovsk and Ivano-Frankivsk.
Russia’s Defence Ministry said it had conducted a “massive strike” against military-industrial facilities using precision weapons and drones. Ukraine reported extensive damage to civilian buildings and energy infrastructure.
Zelenskyy called for expanded Ukrainian access to Starlink services to help target Russian ballistic-missile launchers. He also criticized Washington for pursuing potential economic projects with Russia while mediating the war, disputing U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s characterization of the conflict as a stalemate.
