A Singapore-flagged container ship sank after being struck by an unknown projectile while transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday, Singapore’s Maritime and Port Authority said. All 21 crew members aboard the GFS Pride were evacuated safely, with no injuries reported, after the strike caused damage and a fire.

Another Singapore-flagged container ship, the GFS Giselle, suffered hull damage in a projectile strike on Wednesday but reached a safe anchorage with all 22 crew members, the authority said. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations also reported that two container ships were hit by unknown projectiles on Tuesday, sustaining minor damage and continuing their voyages.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards offered a different account of the GFS Pride incident, saying a vessel struck naval mines and sank after using what they called an unauthorized route. Images released by the Guards appeared to show a container ship down by the stern, with cargo floating nearby.

In a separate attack, the Panama-flagged tanker MT On Peace was struck by a projectile off Oman. India’s Ministry of External Affairs said 12 of its 19 crew members were injured, including 11 Indian nationals. The injured sailors were evacuated with Omani assistance for treatment in Khasab.

India condemned the attack and called for an immediate end to strikes on commercial shipping. Iran has meanwhile reiterated that it will not reopen the strait unless conditions including an end to U.S. military action, the naval blockade and economic pressure are met.
