Russian forces struck residential buildings in the southeastern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia with five glide bombs on Saturday, killing 20 people, including at least three children, according to Ukrainian officials. The reported death toll rose during search-and-rescue operations as crews worked through the rubble of a collapsed apartment building.

Accounts differed on the number of wounded. Ukraine’s State Emergency Service reported 18 injured, including three children, while the BBC cited local officials who said at least 32 people were hurt and others remained missing. The Kyiv Independent reported that 26 residential buildings were damaged.

Other Russian attacks were reported across Ukraine. The Kyiv Independent said at least 24 people were killed and 47 injured nationwide over the preceding day, including casualties in the Kherson, Kharkiv and Donetsk regions. Missile and drone attacks in Kyiv damaged energy infrastructure and injured at least seven people, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy linked the Zaporizhzhia attack to a diesel agreement announced a day earlier by US President Donald Trump after talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Zelenskyy called the strikes Russia’s “thanks” for easing sanctions on Russian diesel exports and argued that Moscow interprets reduced pressure as permission to continue the war. US, Ukrainian and European officials were also meeting in Miami for talks aimed at ending the conflict.
