Hyundai Motor Group plans to invest $15.5 billion in India from 2026 through 2032, expanding vehicle production while funding research, emerging technologies and local suppliers. The announcement followed Executive Chair Euisun Chung’s meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.

Vice Chair Jang Jae-hoon said about 60% of the investment would go toward upgrading facilities and expanding manufacturing capacity. Another 20% would support new businesses including artificial intelligence, ventures and startups, while the remaining 20% would fund local research, development and talent. The group also plans to establish a dedicated Indian investment entity and spend about $700 million on its local research and development center.

A day later, Hyundai Motor India formally inaugurated its plant in Talegaon, Pune, which it acquired from General Motors in 2023 and extensively rebuilt. The facility currently has annual capacity of 170,000 vehicles, scheduled to rise to 250,000 by July 2028 and 320,000 by 2030. Hyundai said total investment in the plant will reach ₹11,000 crore by 2030, including an additional ₹4,000 crore.

The Pune site produces the Venue SUV and includes an engine shop capable of making 150,000 engines annually. Hyundai has replaced the former plant’s largely manual body shop with 204 welding robots. The company also plans to raise local sourcing from 83% to 92% and introduce 26 new or updated combustion-engine, electric and hybrid models in India by 2030.
