President Donald Trump awarded Elon Musk the National Medal of Science at a White House ceremony Thursday, praising the Tesla and SpaceX chief a little more than a year after their relationship erupted into a public feud, according to The Hill.
The ceremony was part of the administration’s “Science: A New Golden Age” summit. The White House had announced that Google co-founder Sergey Brin, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and AMD CEO Lisa Su would also receive the National Medal of Science. Dell Technologies CEO Michael Dell and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella were named as recipients of the National Medal of Technology and Innovation.
The National Medal of Science, established by Congress in 1959, is the country’s highest presidential recognition for scientists and engineers. The National Medal of Technology and Innovation is the top U.S. honor for technological achievement.
“These recipients are helping ensure America keeps leading the world in innovation,” White House assistant press secretary Liz Huston said before the ceremony.
Fox News Digital reported that Thursday marked the first time Trump had presented either medal during his presidencies. Musk, who briefly led the administration’s effort to reduce the federal workforce, was also Trump’s largest financial backer during the 2024 election cycle, contributing more than $290 million, CNBC reported.
