Elon Musk called for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to leave office Wednesday as Kyiv accused the United States of restricting satellite communications used by Ukraine’s military.
“And so the slaughter continues,” Musk wrote on X. “Time for Zelensky to go.” His comments followed Zelenskyy’s call to restore satellite service that Ukraine says has been slowed, hindering military drones and air defenses.
Ukraine’s military reported that terminals moving faster than 100 mph could no longer use the communications system, according to the Guardian. The restriction rendered many drones used for strikes behind the front lines inoperable and affected an air-defense system used against Russian attack drones, the newspaper reported.
Musk said any disruption was the responsibility of the U.S. government. He distinguished Starshield, a military communications service he said is controlled by Washington, from SpaceX’s civilian Starlink network, which Ukraine also uses but is not permitted to employ for offensive operations.
The dispute comes amid broader friction between Kyiv and Washington. Zelenskyy said he felt “betrayed” after President Donald Trump announced a diesel-supply deal with Russia. Trump subsequently said Ukraine should choose a new leader who could negotiate a deal. A senior Ukrainian official also said the United States had threatened to halt intelligence on incoming Russian missiles, an allegation Trump denied.
