A large Ukrainian drone attack struck oil and commercial facilities around St Petersburg, killing at least one person and injuring at least five, according to regional authorities.
St Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov said fires broke out at the St Petersburg Oil Terminal and the Ruchyi oil depot. An Ozon logistics centre and a VK data centre were also hit, the companies confirmed, while residential buildings and houses sustained damage. Ozon said its staff were evacuated without injury, and VK said its services continued operating normally.
The attack disrupted operations at St Petersburg’s Pulkovo Airport and caused power outages in parts of the surrounding Leningrad region. Russian officials said air defences shot down about 145 drones over the region. Russia’s Defence Ministry claimed 1,015 Ukrainian drones were neutralised across Russian-controlled territory, Crimea and the Black Sea, though that figure could not be independently verified.
The strikes followed the collapse of a pause in attacks on energy infrastructure announced by US President Donald Trump. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine initially suspended attacks on Russian oil facilities for three days but resumed them after Russia continued targeting Ukrainian energy sites. He said Russia had struck Ukraine’s energy, oil and gas sectors 76 times during the previous week.
Russia also attacked Kyiv, killing one person and injuring two, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said. A medical facility and a non-residential building were damaged.
