Visakhapatnam police rescued retired Indian Revenue Service officer P. Anand Kumar from a guest house and arrested 10 people after he was allegedly abducted over a financial dispute, The Hindu reported. Another accused remained at large.
Kumar, a former Audit Commissioner in the GST Department, was travelling from Sai Priya Resort at Rushikonda toward the airport on October 16 when unidentified people intercepted his car in the IT-SEZ area and forced him into another vehicle. Police registered a case and formed special teams, which reviewed CCTV footage and mobile phone location data before tracing him to a guest house in Visalakshi Nagar within hours.
Investigators said financial dealings between Kumar and two of the accused led to the abduction. Police allege that the prime accused, Hemanth Kumar, sought help from Kollu Sridhar, who assembled a group to carry it out. The abductors allegedly contacted Kumar’s wife, demanded immediate payment and threatened to kill him if the money was not paid.
Officers found Kumar confined at the guest house and rescued him safely. The 10 people detained at the premises were later produced before a court.
