Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff escaped without gunshot wounds after assailants opened fire on his car in Mumbai’s Juhu district on Sunday evening, police said. Two other people, including Shroff’s driver, were injured.
The attack occurred at about 7 p.m. as the 36-year-old actor was leaving a football ground or private event. Video published by news outlets appeared to show at least two gunmen firing several rounds at close range toward the front passenger side of the slowly moving vehicle. Reports said the attackers fled on a motorcycle.
Police detained three suspects in Rajasthan in connection with the shooting. The Mumbai Crime Branch later told ANI that the assailants had initially intended to attack another prominent Bollywood actor but changed targets because that person’s security was too tight. Investigators have not publicly named the alleged original target.
Two men claiming links to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang have asserted responsibility, but police have not verified that claim or conclusively established a motive. Authorities formed multiple teams to examine CCTV footage and trace the attackers’ movements.
In a related investigation, Delhi Police arrested four people accused of helping transport the pistol allegedly used in the attack. Police said two women carried the weapon from Delhi to Mumbai and handed it to a minor the day before the shooting.
Shroff’s representatives separately warned that deepfake videos and fabricated audio clips purporting to show the actor discussing the attack were circulating online, saying he had issued no statement or video about the incident.
