Rajinikanth watched *Jailer 2* with fans at a newly renovated IMAX theatre in Chennai on Friday, October 23, in what producer Sun Pictures described as his first such screening in 40 years.
Composer Anirudh Ravichander, who scored the film, joined Rajinikanth at the late-night show. Sun Pictures shared footage showing the actor greeting Ravichander and director Nelson Dilipkumar. The film’s team told The Indian Express that Rajinikanth watched with a packed audience and that some fans were able to take photographs with him before he was escorted out.
The appearance came as the action sequel continued its theatrical run after opening on October 15. According to box-office tracker Sacnilk, as cited by The Indian Express, the film earned ₹14.50 crore net in India on its second Friday, its lowest single-day domestic total so far. That brought its nine-day India net collection to ₹348.85 crore and its domestic gross to ₹408.55 crore.
Sacnilk estimated the film’s worldwide gross at ₹628.05 crore, including ₹219.50 crore from overseas markets. That total places it above the reported ₹604.74 crore lifetime worldwide collection of the 2023 original, *Jailer*.
Directed by Nelson and produced by Sun Pictures, *Jailer 2* features Rajinikanth alongside SJ Suryah, Vidya Balan, Shivarajkumar, Mohanlal, Jackie Shroff and Hrithik Roshan.
