Pune police have arrested four people in connection with the July 13 burglary of jewellery and cash worth about ₹2.55 crore from Aradhya Jewellers on Manjari-Mundhwa Road. Police said the suspected masterminds, including a watchman believed to be a key accused, remain at large.
The arrested men are Jharkhand natives Aijul Shaikh, 35, M. Ali Sirajul Shaikh, 30, and Salim Sahu Shaikh, 40, as well as Delhi-based goldsmith Kasim Mohsin Shaikh, 41. Investigators arrested Kasim in Delhi on October 6 and recovered 13.792 kilograms of silver valued at ₹31 lakh. Police allege that he is related to a wanted suspect and sold stolen ornaments to buyers in Delhi.
According to police, the burglars entered the complex’s watchman’s room at about 3 a.m. and used tools to make a roughly 1.5-foot opening through a wall shared with the jewellery shop’s washroom. They attempted unsuccessfully to open a cash box with a gas cutter, then fled with 211 grams of gold ornaments, 94 kilograms of silver ornaments and cash.
The theft was discovered when an employee opened the store at about 10 a.m. Police recovered a hammer, gas cutter, gas cylinder and other abandoned equipment, and said CCTV footage and other evidence helped identify suspects. Officers are continuing efforts to recover the remaining property and arrest those still wanted.
