Police in Nepal’s Parsa district arrested 103 people convicted in various cases who had evaded prison sentences or failed to pay court-imposed fines, the District Police Office said.
The arrests were made from mid-September to mid-October as part of a campaign to enforce court verdicts. According to police data, the detainees collectively face 40 years, 11 months and 12 days in prison and fines totaling more than Rs27 million.
Police said legal proceedings will move forward in accordance with court orders to carry out the sentences and recover the outstanding fines. Deputy Superintendent of Police Chakra Bahadur Malla, spokesperson for the District Police Office, said locating convicted people who had avoided punishment remained a priority.
The district police said the campaign would continue, arguing that enforcing prison terms and fines is necessary to ensure judicial decisions are carried out.
