Anthropic publicly filed for an initial public offering on Monday, seeking to list its shares on Nasdaq under the ticker “ANT.” The number of shares and their price have not been determined, but reports said the Claude developer could be valued at as much as $2 trillion when trading is expected to begin in mid-November.
The filing said Anthropic had raised $141.1 billion as of June 30, with $112.4 billion in cash and cash equivalents and $19.3 billion in short-term investments. Revenue increased 1,368% year over year in the three months through June, while compute and infrastructure expenses rose 300%. An earlier confidential filing reported an $8 billion operating loss last year.
Anthropic also disclosed risks involving AI misuse, loss of control, authoritarian abuse and economic disruption. Its unusual governance structure gives a Long-Term Benefit Trust authority to elect a majority of the company’s board. Anthropic recently appointed Harvard astrophysicist Christopher Stubbs to the trust, filling one of two vacancies.
Meanwhile, OpenAI is seeking commitments for a funding round of about $30 billion before Anthropic’s expected market debut, according to Reuters, citing people familiar with the matter. The round could value OpenAI at more than $1.4 trillion. Existing investors including SoftBank and Abu Dhabi-based MGX were reported to be in talks to participate.
Reuters reported that OpenAI has told investors its annualized revenue reached $50 billion after the launch of GPT-6 Astra and could rise to $70 billion by year-end. OpenAI and SoftBank declined to comment; Anthropic and MGX did not immediately respond.
