Saudi-led forces and Yemen’s Houthis traded air, missile and drone attacks as renewed fighting spread across Yemen and into Saudi Arabia.
The Houthis said Saudi Arabia carried out 26 air strikes on the capital, Sanaa, on October 3. The claim was reported by the Houthi-affiliated Almasirah channel, while an AFP correspondent reported hearing explosions and seeing fighter jets. On Monday, Saudi-led coalition spokesman Maj. Gen. Turki al-Malki said 100 fighter jets were supporting Yemeni government forces and that hundreds of Houthi targets had been destroyed. The scale of the campaign was not independently verified.
On Wednesday, Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree claimed the group targeted King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Abha International Airport, Khamis Mushait Air Base and several Saudi military camps with ballistic missiles and drones. Saudi authorities did not confirm the claimed airport strikes or disruptions. The coalition said it intercepted a ballistic missile north of Riyadh, while The National reported that it also claimed an interception near Khamis Mushait.
Fighting also continued on the ground. The Houthis said they captured Turbah, a strategic town on the road between Taiz and Aden, after earlier gains along the Red Sea coast. Saudi-backed Yemeni forces subsequently launched counteroffensives and said they seized a key mountain peak in Taiz province. Neither side’s battlefield claims were independently confirmed.
