Yemen’s internationally recognised government accused the Houthis of firing at least two ballistic missiles and several drones at Aden International Airport on Wednesday as fighting intensified across the country.
The government’s Ministry of Transport said one missile landed near the runway shortly before a flight from Cairo was due to arrive, prompting authorities to divert the aircraft to Jeddah, evacuate the terminal and move two planes from the tarmac. Aden’s security department said no casualties were reported.
The Houthis said they had targeted Saudi military supplies arriving at Badr camp near the airport. Aden is the government’s temporary seat and its main international gateway outside Houthi control.
Separately, the Saudi-led coalition said it intercepted and destroyed a Houthi ballistic missile north of Riyadh and was tracking its launch site in Sanaa. The Houthis also claimed attacks on airports in Riyadh and Abha, but Saudi authorities did not immediately confirm strikes on those airports.
The attacks came during a Saudi-backed government counteroffensive along Yemen’s Red Sea coast. Government forces said they had driven the Houthis from areas around the Bab al-Mandab Strait and Mocha, while Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree denied losing recently captured territory. The competing territorial claims could not be independently verified.
The Houthis also reported strikes against government forces in Al-Jawf, Marib and Taiz. Their health ministry said a Saudi airstrike in Hajjah killed six members of one family, a claim that was not independently confirmed.
