New strike hits Riyadh airport after attack kills 12 and wounds hundreds

A new Houthi strike hit King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Sunday, one day after an attack there killed 12 people and wounded 309, Saudi authorities said. The Saudi-led coalition said Sunday’s projectile caused a fire, while air defences intercepted another missile nearby. Civil aviation authorities reported additional injuries but did not provide a number.

Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthis claimed responsibility for the attacks and threatened further strikes on Saudi transit hubs. Saudi Arabia had suspended airport operations after Saturday’s attack, which struck a complex housing domestic terminals 3 and 4. Riyadh schools were moved online through the end of the week.

Saudi authorities initially identified Saturday’s dead as four Saudi citizens and eight foreign nationals: two Bangladeshis and one citizen each from the United States, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Palestine and Sudan. The Indian Embassy later said an Indian national died after being injured and that at least 10 other Indians were among those hurt. Some of the wounded remained in critical condition.

The Saudi-led coalition blamed the Houthis and vowed a response. US President Donald Trump said he planned to speak with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and was considering whether the United States should join Saudi strikes against the group. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed an American was killed and condemned the attack.
