Four people have been arrested after a police officer was shot in the foot in Nottingham city centre early Sunday, Nottinghamshire police said.
The officer was injured by a projectile believed to have been fired from a shotgun after approaching two suspects in Angel Row at about 4:50 a.m. The suspects fled, prompting a nationwide search. Police said Monday that the officer remained in stable condition in hospital.
A 27-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life. A 24-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender after officers stopped their car in Nottingham’s Radford area on Sunday night.
A fourth suspect, a 30-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender after police stopped a car in Bedfordshire early Monday. All four remained in custody for questioning.
Assistant Chief Constable Claire Rukas said detectives were working to establish what happened before, during and after the shooting. She said the injured officer was recovering in hospital and receiving support from colleagues and loved ones.
