Defeated Brazilian presidential candidate Flávio Bolsonaro arrived with his wife and two daughters at Opa-Locka Executive Airport near Miami on Wednesday after travelling through Argentina and Ecuador.

Argentina’s migration authority said the family entered the country at the Tancredo Neves International Bridge late Tuesday with valid travel documents and no legal impediment to entry. They then boarded a private Baires Fly aircraft in Puerto Iguazú bound for Guayaquil, Ecuador, before continuing to Florida.

Bolsonaro left Brazil after losing Sunday’s presidential runoff to incumbent Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. He has not conceded and has said he would seek to annul the result over a court-ordered extension of polling hours. Lula received 51.8% of the vote, according to AFP.

Brazil’s Supreme Court had ordered Bolsonaro to surrender his ordinary and diplomatic passports amid investigations into alleged corruption and money laundering. He denies wrongdoing. Brazilian authorities later cancelled those passports, according to reports, while Italian documents reviewed by AFP indicate that Bolsonaro has held Italian citizenship since 2023.

The US State Department granted visas to Bolsonaro and his immediate family. President Donald Trump supported their admission and described the Brazilian election as “very strange,” while Lula called Bolsonaro’s departure “shameful.” It remains unclear how long Bolsonaro intends to stay in the United States.
