Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said intelligence indicated Russia was preparing another massive attack, after one of Moscow’s largest recent strikes killed 11 people and caused widespread power outages across Ukraine, Reuters reported.
Zelensky said the overnight assault targeted energy and other critical infrastructure in Kyiv, the surrounding region and Kharkiv. According to figures he cited, Russia launched 39 ballistic missiles and more than 120 attack drones and loitering munitions. Ukraine’s Air Force gave a total of 167 aerial weapons and said it shot down or suppressed 119 targets, including four missiles and 115 drones.
The strikes damaged 26 sites in Ukraine’s electricity system and four oil and gas facilities, Zelensky said. About 600,000 people were left without power, and officials warned that further outages were possible while repair crews worked. Ukrainian officials said a ballistic missile hit Kyiv’s CHP-4 power plant and a residential building, causing deaths and injuries.
Zelensky urged U.S. President Donald Trump to impose stronger sanctions on Russia and called for more interceptor missiles for Ukraine’s Patriot air-defense systems.
Days earlier, Zelensky had said Ukraine was prepared to stop striking Russian oil refineries if Moscow ended attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure, provided any de-escalation was reciprocal and supported by guarantees. Ukraine has continued long-range attacks inside Russia, including a strike it said destroyed four Russian Su-34M bombers and damaged two others at the Borisoglebsk airfield.
